Still, in the age of celebrity endorsement, brands can shape their identity through Hollywood\u2019s talent pool. Selecting the right talent to collaborate with has become an art form, but Burch appears to have met her match in&nbsp;<em>Euphoria<\/em>&nbsp;actor Sydney Sweeney.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Tapped as the new ambassador for Burch\u2019s line of handbags and shoes, the rising star couldn\u2019t be buzzier thanks to her scene-stealing roles on&nbsp;<em>Euphoria<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>The White Lotus.<\/em>&nbsp;Still, the fact that Sweeney is at the center of two of the most talked-about television series in recent memory wasn\u2019t what captured the designer\u2019s attention. A performer, producer, martial artist, auto enthusiast, and more, the multi-faceted Sweeney had moxie. \u201c<em>Sydney is one of the most talented and relevant young actors working today, but I am equally inspired by her curiosity and confidence,<\/em>\u201d Burch shared pre-announcement. \u201c<em>She is unapologetic and empowered in her approach to acting and business<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Like many in Gen-Z, Sweeney came of age as Burch\u2019s storefront became a must-visit destination in malls across America. Raised in Spokane, Washington, some of her earliest fashion moments came courtesy of Burch. \u201c<em>In third grade, my best friend got us matching Tory headbands for Christmas, which stands out to me so much<\/em>,\u201d shared Sweeney on the phone from Los Angeles. \u201c<em>I\u2019d never had something so nice; I was so excited I wore that headband every day for weeks. I\u2019m sure my mom thought something was wrong with me, but it was the first nice thing I\u2019d ever had. Growing up in a small town, you\u2019d see Tory\u2019s store [in the mall], and that was where everyone wanted to be able to shop<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"2703\" src=\"https:\/\/july.uxper.co\/fashion01\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/clothes-g90cafb93d_1280-1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2703\"\/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"2705\" src=\"https:\/\/july.uxper.co\/fashion01\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/hangers-g510de37bf_1280-1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2705\"\/><\/figure>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>By the time Sweeney moved to Hollywood, Burch\u2019s pieces were a regular part of her wardrobe, but her interest in Burch was about more than clothes. Interested in entrepreneurship from an early age\u2014the actor even created a five-year business plan to convince her parents to support her acting dreams\u2014Sweeney was inspired by Burch\u2019s entire enterprise. \u201c<em>She\u2019s such an incredible businesswoman<\/em>,\u201d says Sweeney. \u201c<em>I hope to accomplish a third of what she\u2019s been able to build<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Selected to front the brand\u2019s holiday ads in 2021, Sweeney immediately clicked with the designer and her team. \u201c<em>[Shooting the campaign] just felt very natural and fluid<\/em>,\u201d says Sweeney. \u201c<em>I was already a big fan of her clothing, and I think that showed, but when I met Tory, we completely hit it off<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>An entrepreneur in her own right\u2014Sweeney\u2019s production company Fifty-Fifty Films, which focuses on highlighting female directors and screenwriters, launched in 2020\u2014she was moved by the philanthropic example set by Burch. The designer\u2019s foundation helps female founders access capital and education resources, opening doors for women. \u201cWhat\u2019s been inspiring [to me] is how she supports and wants to empower the next generation,\u201d says Sweeney. \u201c<em>I want to give back somehow, so seeing her do that so successfully makes me excited for our partnership\u2019s future<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In the interim, Sweeney is enjoying immersing herself in all things fashion. Though she still considers herself a jeans and T-shirt-girl off-duty, she\u2019s embraced the power of transformation on the red carpet. \u201cI\u2019ve learned to create characters,\u201d she explains. \u201cI have social anxiety and used to get nervous before or during events. Now I create different personas that [represent] who I\u2019d want to be in that moment, which puts me at ease.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Thanks to fashion\u2019s obsession with all things&nbsp;<em>Euphoria,<\/em>&nbsp;Sweeney\u2019s event schedule is full. The show\u2019s visual identity has struck a chord with viewers who recreate Doniella Davy\u2019s ethereal makeup and obsessively chart each piece of designer clothing worn at #EuphoriaHigh. The series\u2019 outsized influence on trends underscores its relevance, but neither Sweeney nor her castmates could have predicted its impact. \u201cNone of us knew what to expect from the show, but I think it\u2019s beautiful that we\u2019ve been able to touch people,\u201d says Sweeney. \u201c<em>Each character is so uniquely themselves, and that allows the audience to connect with them, even when it\u2019s through their style.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This season,&nbsp;the wardrobe for Sweeney\u2019s Cassie proved especially significant,&nbsp;the ups and downs of her emotional rollercoaster reflected in her wardrobe. Cassie\u2019s arc was provocative, but Sweeney found bringing the story to life thrilling. \u201cAs an actress, it\u2019s a dream role,\u201d she says. \u201c<em>I\u2019m getting to go deep and to creatively fulfilling places. Sam [Levinson] is such an incredible creator because it allows these characters to go places that people are scared to [approach], but he isn\u2019t. Having the opportunity to bring this to life and affect such a huge audience is incredible<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>At this stage of her career, Sweeney is drawn to projects that push her outside her comfort zone. \u201c<em>My main decision points are \u2018is this completely different from other characters I\u2019ve played, and am I scared?<\/em>\u2019\u201d she says. \u201cYou can\u2019t be afraid to fail because if you are, you\u2019re not going to be able to push yourself. Not everything will be perfect, but I know that if I\u2019m challenging myself, I\u2019m on the right path.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Sweeney\u2019s latest cinematic challenge is director Tony Tost\u2019s&nbsp;<em>National Anthem<\/em>, a gritty neo-Western where she stars opposite Halsey. Tackling a new genre while sharing the screen with one of the world\u2019s biggest pop stars isn\u2019t easy, but it may not be as daunting as the star\u2019s next fashion trial by fire: the Met gala. \u201cI can\u2019t talk about that, but I\u2019m excited!\u201d says Sweeney, who will be making her debut in a custom look dreamed up by Burch. \u201cIt\u2019s a rite of passage. I\u2019ve always seen the Met on TV or in pictures, and I never knew if I\u2019d be able to touch that world.
